Spring is coming (the groundhog says so) and one of the tried and true trends for Spring is the Maxi skirt. However, as someone of average height, I know if can be hard to figure out how to wear them without looking like an unfashionable grandma. I recall times when I was deathly afraid of wearing skirts that wouldn’t show off my legs. Fear not! Maxi skirts come off as sleek, lengthen the body, and can actually be dressed up and down very easily. Below I’ve got a few ideas for you.
1) Earthy Tones
This skirt is by River Island and available at ASOS. I love the digital print, and the colorful (yet somehow neutral looking) tones incorporated into the pattern. I could totally see this being rocked with a heather grey long-sleeved tee and some ankle booties while the weather is cold. Once it heats up, try a black tank and some sandals.
2) The Ombre
For any of you going somewhere tropical for Spring Break, this ombre skirt would be a great airy alternative to shorts and a tee shirt. I’m not a fan of the model’s orange shirt, though. Instead, try a monochromatic look by pairing it with a bright blue tank and some espadrilles.
3) Prints, prints, prints!
This print is bold, and can easily go ‘grandma’s curtains’ if you’re not careful. But, take a heather grey tee shirt and some coral flats, and you go from kitchy to sophisticated. For cold weather, I’m digging the choice of a neutral striped long sleeved shirt. Mixing prints is great, and such a statement maker.
4) A Nude Classic
Of course, the pleated nude maxi skirt is one of those things that just works during all seasons. Pair it with a gladiator-esque sandal and a crisp white tank for a breezy warm weather look, or go with a chambray shirt, leather jacket, and some awesome boots if you aren’t out of winter yet.
