With the end of my freshman year of college only weeks away, I began packing to return home for the summer. As I sorted through a dorm-sized closet barely big enough to contain all my belongings, more often than not I found myself thinking why did I bring this? I didn’t even wear it once. While there are many women in my same position, getting ready to leave their university for the summer, many rising freshman have begun packing to attend school for the fall. Wishing I could go back and tell myself what to bring and what to leave behind, I compiled this list of the 8 most useful and necessary wardrobe items for incoming college freshmen:
1. A layering piece
Casual layering tops, such as the chambray shirt, allow you to rock your favorite tanks, even when it is chilly, and are a great piece for completing an outfit which needs that “something extra.”

After I few weeks in college, you will quickly adapt to the on-the-go lifestyle, and your wardrobe should definitely be ready. Slouchy sweaters are perfect to throw over skinny jeans, leggings, and even skirts, while still looking like a real article of clothing (as opposed to a sweatshirt).
