The Sock Bun! This is an old hair stylist secret that I guess somebody let slip and now we’re seeing it everywhere. It’s an effortless up-do that looks like a professional styled your hair. It’s quick and easy and the perfect look for any occasion -work, night out, class, I even wore it to a wedding recently. Girls, this look is absolutely effortless and it looks so polished. I’m going to give you a few tips on how to pull this off.
Here’s what you’ll need:
There are two ways to achieve the sock bun look.
1. If you want a big full bun that sits on top of your head, looking like a hair bagel (which I do, seriously, they’re adorable), then you need to purchase something called a mesh chignon. They come in various sizes and colors and you can by them at any beauty supply store.
2. If you’re going for a small, simple bun you can use an actual sock from your sock drawer (try to pick on that is similar to your hair color).
You’ll need an elastic, any brush, and also hair pins, not bobby pins. Hair pins are “U” shaped and better to work with for this style. You can also purchase these items at any beauty supply store.

There are loads of tutorials out there on how to achieve this look, but not all of them are very helpful. I’ve picked two tutorials to show you, one for the chignon and one for the sock bun, that I think are easy to understand and professional. Both of these tutorials are performed by bloggers I follow and I highly recommend following their blogs and subscribing to their Youtube channels.

You can wear it messy to class or shopping… or glam things up for work or a night out.
Play around with sizing. Try small, medium, or HUGE.
