How to Style: Spring and Summer Boots

We’ve all bore witness to the shorts-and-Uggs “trend.” On lazy days or to run a quick errand, some of us may have participated in it, too (as a busy college student, I know I am guilty of fashion sin).  Are there other, more mature and stylish ways to incorporate the boots that have supported our feet through the fall and winter into warm weather ensembles? These how-to-style spring and summer boots ideas are just as easy and comfortable as slipping on your favorite cut-offs and a pair of furry boots, but satisfy your inner fashionista!

With a sundress

Wearing a sundress with sandals or ballet flats can look and feel a little too childish. Utilize juxtaposition by pairing this girly piece with a tough pair of boots! Ankle and mid-calf boots work best with a sundress, because a tall boot tends to make a flowing flowing dress look busy. Tan and brown boots (especially cowboy-style) will give you that iconic western look, while a black boot is more trendy and city-chic.

With tailored shorts

It is likely that after pulling on a pair of cut-offs, you opt for sandals or boat shoes. With tailored shorts, traditional summer footwear tends to look a little out of place, so don’t pack away those boots just yet. Your sleek, tall boots will give tailored shorts a streamline look that is perfect for a night out; chunky, mid-calf boots give these shorts a funky look, perfect for daytime. Accessorize this look.

Over-the-knee boots both elongate the leg, and leave some to the imagination -- perfect for a flirty night out. Of course, if the occasion calls for it, your favorite heeled booties work with these shorts, as well! Make Me Chic, $25.00

With high socks

Something about inches of bare leg covered only by shorts and a pair of boots just doesn’t look right. If you’ve been looking for that “something extra” to complete your outfit, look no further than a pair of high socks. High socks are available in virtually every color and pattern, so integrating them into your wardrobe won’t be a chore. Style high socks with tall or mid-calf boots — a short ankle pair is easily overwhelmed by statement socks.

With wide-leg pants

A lazy day has never looked so good! Forget spandex pants — wide leg pants are just as comfy and way more stylish. Polish off this effortless look with beach waves (hint: braid your wet hair, wait until it is almost dry, then use a spray or mouse to lightly scrunch it), and a tee or tank. If the pants are solid, add some spice with a graphic top. Tuck your tall or mid-calf boots into these pants loosely to encompass this breezy vibe. To make these boho pants more edge-y, use accessories to incorporate the studs-and-spikes trend.
